SPEEDWAY, Ind. - Hoofddorp, Netherlands native Rinus VeeKay showed that his raw speed, talent and determination has not faded since he captured second place in the 2017 Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship earlier this year. VeeKay had the opportunity to test with Belardi Auto Racing at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway over the weekend during the seventh annual Chris Griffis Memorial Test.

The 17-year-old’s talents did not go unnoticed by two-time Indianapolis 500 Champion Arie Luyendyk or Belardi Auto Racing team owner Brian Belardi.

“I think Rinus is going to go really far; it’s really been a lot fun to watch him,” commented the Indianapolis 500 legend. “For his age, he just turned 17, he’s mature, he’s calm… great traits to have.”

“We were really impressed,” noted Belardi. “The way he caught on - we threw a lot at him right away. Obviously, the raw speed is there, no question about it. Definitely a fantastic job, we couldn’t ask for more.”

VeeKay finished in the top five of each session, in two of which he was fastest in a very competitive field. Among those included the 2017 Pro Mazda Champion and Indy Lights race winners.

The Dutchman was thrilled to drive the No. 4 Jumbo Belardi Auto Racing Mazda. VeeKay expressed his elation with the speed of the car in comparison to his previous experiences in USF2000 and Pro Mazda saying, “The quicker the better, and this is much quicker. It was a very nice weekend, and it was a pleasure to drive in Indy Lights. I learned a lot with the downforce and the turbo. I was in the top five every single session, which I think is very good especially because it was my first time in the car.”

VeeKay will continue testing throughout the offseason and plans on announcing his 2018 racing campaign in the coming weeks. Fans can connect with the Dutchman by following him on social media @FollowRVK.
