ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – As the sun rises over Tampa Bay Friday morning, it shall also rise on a new Indy Lights presented by Cooper Tires season, and a new era for the Team Pelfrey organization as Team Pelfrey-Indy Lights sets out on its maiden season in competition on the streets of St. Petersburg. Following a successful test at Barber Motorsports Park with drivers Juan Piedrahita and Scott Hargrove, the Indy Lights focused group will shift its attention to the 1.8-mile street circuit in sunny Florida, where a doubleheader weekend awaits.

Both drivers have raced in Indy Lights before at St. Pete. Veteran Piedrahita equaled his best performance at the temporary circuit with a 6th-place finish in Race 1 last year, and Canadian Hargrove made his Indy Lights debut in St. Pete in 2015, notching 4th and 6th-place finishes over the course of the weekend. Now working together on the same team, all parties are eager to get on track and prove their mettle.

What They’re Saying

Juan Piedrahita – Driver, No. 2 Polipetrosur Dallara

“Well first I’m very excited to be here with Team Pelfrey-Indy Lights in St. Petersburg. I think we’ve done a lot of great work with the car so far, it was really fast at Barber, and we’re going to be fighting with the top teams once we get out on track here. Come first practice, we’re just going to take it easy. Both Scott and I know the track, so it’s just about working on the car, making the setup better, and pushing for qualifying, which will be very important at this track, because it can be tough to pass. I think the expectations are really high here at Team Pelfrey-Indy Lights; we want to be on the podium both races, and of course winning, but as I said, we just have to take it step by step, get better through the end of the weekend.”

Scott Hargrove – Driver, No. 3 GAP Guard Dallara

“Back in Indy Lights after a year, and joining Team Pelfrey-Indy Lights, it’s going to be really exciting. I think that the team had a really good test in Barber, and we’re all very confident going into this weekend. I know I’m ready. I’ve done a lot of physical training and I’m mentally ready to go. I’m just really excited for this weekend, I can’t wait to get started.”

Gary Neal – Team Manager

“We’re just excited to get racing and get down to business. There’s stiff competition throughout the field, and we’ll see after the first session Friday morning where we stack up and how much work we’ve got to do.”

The 2016 Indy Lights presented by Cooper Tires season kicks off March 12th on the streets of St. Petersburg, Florida with a doubleheader race weekend on tap. Qualifying will take place Saturday morning on March 12th, with Race 1 set to start at 12:55pm ET on Saturday, and Race 2 is set to go green at 9:45am ET on Sunday March 13th. Live streaming of all sessions can be found at racecontrol.indycar.com.
