INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Schmidt Peterson Motorsports (SPM) completed its second Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires test in the brand-new, Mazda-powered Dallara IL-15 chassis Jan. 13-14 at Palm Beach International Raceway.

SPM's confirmed 2015 Indy Lights drivers Jack Harvey, RC Enerson and Ethan Ringel turned a combined 397 laps over two days and three test sessions on the 2.034-mile, 10-turn road course in Jupiter, Florida.

"The test was productive for us," SPM Indy Lights Team Manager Dave Higuera said. "We had a major checklist of items to work through to get a basic understanding of what this car wants to do. I think the three cars did a good job working through that list.

"Because it's a brand-new car, it's all fundamental stuff. It's pretty basic, but it all has to get done to get a good foundation in order to work forward. I think we were successful in some of the things, and there were a few items we definitely need to improve on."

All eight drivers participating in the first official test of 2015 were within 1.09 seconds when the checkered flag flew at the end of the final session Wednesday.

Along with the new chassis, teams worked through changes that included the 2.0-liter Mazda MZR-R engine and the latest spec of Cooper tires.

Harvey, who placed second in the 2014 championship, was fourth-quickest with a best time of 1 minute, 5.9281 seconds. Enerson and Ringel finished seventh and eighth, respectively, at 1:06.0682 and 1:06.3636.

"The first official test for any new season is always exciting, and this year even more so given the long offseason," team co-owner Sam Schmidt said. "The team members were more than ready to get back to the track and start working toward the goal of an eighth series championship.

"At SPM we have been competing at this level for 12 years, so we don't get focused on a single fast lap or hype. We go to this test with a long list of items to go through, and the new car has made that even longer, which is what we have worked on in a disciplined manner. Now is when the real work begins."

Harvey, Enerson and Ringel will be back in action with SPM on Jan. 26-27 for testing at Homestead-Miami Speedway's road course.

"We are working on the new test plan now, and it's always nice to get out there and see if we're working in the right direction, which I think we are," Higuera said. "We'll try and validate some more items so we're in better shape to go racing."

The 2015 Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires season starts March 28-29 in St. Petersburg, Florida.
