Kyle Kaiser Takes First Podium Finish in Indy Lights

Toronto, Canada – After a tough spell during the month of May, Juncos Racing’s Spencer Pigot returned to victory circle this past weekend on the Streets of Toronto, dominating both Round 9 and 10 of the 2015 Indy Lights Championship Presented by Cooper Tires. Fellow rookie Kyle Kaiser picked up his first podium since advancing into the Indy Lights series this season on the 1.755 mile, 11-Turn street course.

The weekend started off on a high note for Juncos Racing’s rookie Pigot (Orlando, Florida) finishing fastest overall in practice. Pigot went on to qualify third and teammate Kaiser (Santa Clara, California) took the ninth starting position.

Juncos Racing continued their strong run with American Pigot driving the #12 MAZDASPEED scholarship car, leading 21 of 34 laps to take his first victory of the weekend. Kaiser, driving his #18 InterVision/NetApp/ JuniperNetworks, took fourth, but after a disqualification by the #4 of Felix Serralles, Kaiser moved up to record his first podium of the season with a third-place finish.

The weekend at Toronto came to a close with rainy conditions on track. Pigot took the pole position for Race 2 and went on to maintain the lead for the entire 30-lap race earning his second victory at Toronto. American Kaiser, who started ninth, was able to avoid multiple incidents throughout the first half of the race moving up as high as fourth. Kaiser recorded the fastest lap of the race, but unfortunately made contact with the wall going into Turn-3 finishing his day early in ninth.

Pigot’s four wins out of the 10 races so far this season move him to second in a tight battle for the championship, trailing the leader by only 11 points.

’It was a great weekend for us,” said Pigot.  “We had a tough few races at Indy and to bounce back with two wins was huge for us. I can't thank the guys enough for all of their hard work. It was really tricky out there in the rain but a lot of fun. Also a big thank you to Mazda, Cooper Tire, Mockett, Rising Star Racing, The Stutz, MOBĒ and BAD."

Kaiser’s performance this past weekend proved to be his strongest run in the 2015 Indy Lights Championship, picking up his first podium finish in Race 1 and recording the fastest lap in Race 2.

“This weekend had many ups and downs,” said Kaiser. “I’m happy walking away from the weekend  getting my first Indy Lights podium finish and having the fastest lap in Sunday’s Race 2, but I know there is plenty to learn. There’s time before the next race to learn from the mistakes I made this past weekend to put myself in a position to start winning races. The team has done an incredible job this season, and I know we’re going to close out the latter half of the season on a great note!”

Juncos Racing Team Principle, Ricardo Juncos, is thrilled to be back in victory circle with Pigot and pleased to see Kaiser pick up a podium finish after the team struggled this past month at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Juncos looks to carry this momentum into next month when they head to Milwaukee for the second oval of the season.

“The double victory in Toronto proved that the team and Spencer (Pigot) are capable of winning races on both permanent road courses as well as street circuits,” said Juncos. “It also showed that the championship is still very much alive as we are only 11 points out of the lead. Spencer reinforced his massive maturity in the second race. With extraordinary weather conditions, he never put a foot wrong. Kyle (Kaiser) was able to get his first podium of the season as well as fast lap of the race, which proves a great deal of progress on his end.”

The 2015 Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires will take a month hiatus and be back on track for Round 11 July 10-12 with the second oval of the season on The Milwaukee Mile located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. For more information please visit juncosracing.com and indylights.com.
