INDIANAPOLIS -- Rising Star Racing (RSR) driver Spencer Pigot will take the next step of his racing career Thursday, Aug. 13 at Sonoma Raceway when he participates in an Indy car test for the highly decorated Team Penske.

Pigot, 21, has collected four wins thus far in the 2015 Indy Lights season driving for Juncos Racing, and trails championship leader Jack Harvey by only six points.

Per the Verizon IndyCar Series rulebook teams are allowed two additional test days for the use of testing a current Indy Lights driver, creating a valuable opportunity for IndyCar teams to see how the current crop of Mazda Road to Indy drivers perform in their equipment.

“It’s still hard to believe I’m going to be driving a Team Penske car,” Pigot said. “I’ve been watching this team compete for as long as I can remember, and working with them is going to be an amazing experience.”

Pigot plans to use his seat time wisely during the test day on the 2.385-mile, 12-turn road course at Sonoma Raceway.

“My main objective for the test is to learn as much as possible from the team about the car, and to help them out in any way I can,” Pigot said. “I think the timing of the test is great because I wouldn’t be in a race car at all in August without this test day. This is going to help me stay sharp and equip myself for the final Indy Lights races at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in September.”

Rising Star Racing Founder and Principal Art Wilmes views Pigot’s test with Team Penske as an example of how his organization’s mission to help young, talented drivers progress up the racing ladder is succeeding.

“RSR was founded to help drivers like Spencer launch careers in the top rungs of auto racing,” Wilmes said. “I hope this is one of many success stories we celebrate in years to come, and I couldn’t be more proud of Spencer taking this opportunity to show his skill to one of the best IndyCar teams in the history of the sport.”

The Aug. 13 test at Sonoma Raceway is open to the public. For the latest updates from Pigot during his test, follow him on Twitter at @SpencerPigot. For more information on Rising Star Racing, visit risingstarracing.com.
