Rookie driver continues to focus on the future

Having competed in several open wheel series in North America and Europe, Danish/American driver Benjamin Pedersen has found a home in the Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires program. With three event weekends under his belt, Pedersen has earned one podium result and finished inside the top 10 in all six races while he grows his knowledge, experience and partnerships for the future.

“The ultimate goal is the NTT INDYCAR SERIES but right now, I am racing and learning a lot in Indy Lights,” explained Pedersen. “It is a new car and a new program for me. I competed on my first ever street circuit and brought the car home in one piece. I had a podium result in my series debut, so it has been great. There have definitely been some down times but if that did not happen in racing, you wouldn’t be trying.”

Kicking off the 2021 season at Barber Motorsports Park, Pedersen turned his fourth-place qualifying effort into a second-place podium result as he joined his teammate and long-time friend Linus Lundqvist on the podium. Competing under the Global Racing Group and HMD Motorsports banner, it was a solid debut to the series and return to North American racing. A seventh-place result on Sunday satisfied a solid weekend and it was then off to the Streets of St. Petersburg the following weekend.

Having never competed on a temporary circuit in the past, Pedersen barely put a wheel wrong all weekend long. While Saturday’s tenth place result was not indicative of his true speed, the driver of the #24 entry was passing for fourth late in the race when he pinched off the corner to avoid contact and spun. Returning Sunday with a vengeance, Pedersen showed what he could do with a sixth-place finish after a bold outside pass entering corner one late in the race.

From the barrier lined circuit to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Pedersen aimed to utilize track knowledge from his F4 days in Indy Lights.

“Indy is amazing with three really heavy braking zones,” explained Benjamin. “I worked hard all weekend long to improve my braking and rolling speed and was able to do so as the event went on. While I was a little off in qualifying and that hurt my track position for the race, it was another weekend under my belt and another two races with full race distance completed.”

Aside from his on-track performances, Pedersen has also added marketing partners to his growing program. With VRX Simulators, Sablet America, Bell Helmets, DirtFish, Colibri Capital, and Ameriprise Financial already onboard, BoneForg Coffee company joined the list of partners for the #24 entry at the Indianapolis Grand Prix and onwards for the rest of the 2021 season.

Pedersen added, “Thank you to everyone who is making this season a success. Without all of your help and support, I would not be where I am today.”
