Juncos Griffis Lights 2018 Recap

Indianapolis, Ind.  – Juncos Racing finished off a successful outing in the Eighth Annual Chris Griffis Memorial Open Test with rookie Rinus VeeKay and Heamin Choi at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Both drivers completed six sessions in the Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires during the two-day event.

VeeKay and Choi joined drivers from around the world to test on the 2.439 mile, 14-Turn road course this past weekend.  Drivers dealt with diverse weather conditions starting off with cool temperatures and cloudy skies on Day 1, and turning into sunny skies with warmer temperatures for the final day.

VeeKay (Hoofddorp, Netherlands) rejoined Juncos Racing after winning the 2018 Pro Mazda Championship earlier this month. The 18-year-old kicked off the weekend on a high note in the No. 21 Jumbo/Juncos Racing entry setting the second fastest time in the first session. The rookie stayed consistent finishing inside the Top-4 for all six sessions, ending the weekend fifth quickest overall.

“I had a great time driving the Soul Red IL-15 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway,” said VeeKay. “I would like to thank Juncos Racing, Mazda Motorsports and the Road to Indy organization for this opportunity and I am really looking forward to the 2019 Indy Lights season.”

Choi (Busan, Korea) also rejoined Juncos Racing after running in the Indy Lights season finale at Portland International Raceway this month. Choi, driving the No. 7 Juncos Racing car, continued to gain his confidence throughout the weekend posting consistent times and finishing 10th overall.

Team Owner Ricardo Juncos said, “We had a great weekend at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway running at the Chris Griffis Test. Both drivers were able to gain a lot of knowledge and confidence in the Indy Lights car. Rinus) came out strong on the first day setting the second fastest time. He is a very talented young driver and I am excited to see him in the Indy Lights Championship next year. Heamin continued to improve and that showed with his times throughout the sessions. I want to thank both drivers, their families, and sponsors for rejoining the team this weekend and giving us the opportunity to work with them again. I want to thank our crew as well. We have an amazing crew full of top-level experience to help guide these drivers and give them the tools they need to be successful. Now we will get to work at the shop and prepare for the 2019 season.”
