Kaiser Tops Mazda Road to Indy Oval Test

Homestead, Florida – The 2014 Pro Mazda Champions Juncos Racing continued their momentum this week when they set the pace in their first oval test of the 2015 Indy Lights Championship Presented by Cooper Tires season with Kyle Kaiser recording the fastest lap and teammate Spencer Pigot finishing second overall. The rookie duo completed three days of testing January 26-29 on both the 2.21-mile, 14-turn road course and 1.5-mile oval at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Continuing an impressive run in the Indy Lights series winter testing, 18-year-old rookie Kaiser (Santa Clara, California) set the fastest lap at the Homestead-Miami Speedway oval in the #18 Juncos racing car with a time of 28.308 (188.851 MPH). Earlier in the week Kaiser completed 162 laps on the Homestead-Miami Speedway road course.

"Today was a nice way to finish the week of testing,” said Kaiser. “The team continues to demonstrate their ability to adapt to this new car. It's still early and there is a lot of work ahead, but we are making steady progress. It was my first time driving on an oval at this speed and the team gave me the perfect car to make the transition seamless. I'm looking forward to NOLA in a few weeks to continue our development."

Reigning 2014 Pro Mazda Champion Spencer Pigot continued the strong run in the #12 Juncos Racing car recording the second fastest lap with a time of 28.459 (187.852 MPH). Pigot completed 153 laps and topped the speed charts during the first session at the two day test on the road course earlier in the week.

“We had a really productive week of testing at Homestead,” said Pigot. “We had lots of things we wanted to try both on the road course and the oval. The car was great on both tracks and I can’t wait to get back in it and continue our test program.”

After a very productive week of testing Juncos Racing Team Owner, Ricardo Juncos, is thrilled with the progress the team has made in quickly adapting to the new Mazda-powered Dallara IL-15 and looks forward to taking the momentum into final test sessions next month.

“Today’s results, and the results of all the testing we have done thus far speak to the program we have assembled for the 2015 season,” said Juncos. “I believe we have the two all-around best drivers in the paddock, our technical staff is stronger than ever, and our mechanical team has performed flawlessly. Finishing the three-day open test first and second shows our strength and how well everyone on the team has transitioned from their former roles into new positions on the Indy Lights front. I am truly proud of every single person on the team that has assisted in making our transition into Indy Lights possible.”

Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires kicks off the 2015 season March 28-29 on the Streets of St. Petersburg, Florida. For more information please visit juncosracing.com.
