HMD May 2020 Release
BROWNSBURG, Ind. - After a nearly two-month delay to the start of the 2020 Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires championship due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the series appears to be on track to this season's opening event at Road America later in June.

With the intention of completing the scheduled eighteen races over the course of ten weekends, HMD Motorsports looks to make the most of the peculiar season with their three-driver lineup consisting of Antonio Serravalle, Santiago Urrutia and David Malukas.

"Our goals are set high for 2020, and we will continue to push to achieve these goals once the season starts," explained Team Owner Henry Malukas. "The time off has allowed us as a team to regroup and be better prepared for the upcoming and busy five months. The guys at the shop have completely redone the place making it much more efficient all while making sure the cars are 100%."

Due to the shifted series schedule that is now planned to culminate in October as opposed to September, a shorter off-season between the 2020 and 2021 race seasons is expected and compelling company officials to begin looking forward to 2021 and the future. Anticipating the short off season and limited opportunities for winter testing, HMD Motorsports is introducing the opportunity for optional driver programs in order to be primed and prepped for the following season.

Malukas added, "If you are looking at the Indy Lights program in 2021, we have established a program to allow drivers to experience the professional atmosphere of HMD Motorsports all while we chase race wins, podium results and a championship in 2020."

Aiming for a strong performance in 2020, HMD Motorsports driver David Malukas led the one and only practice session of 2020 at the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. With three drivers in the field and all showing speed on the temporary street circuit, HMD Motorsports is anxious to get back on track.

"The time off has allowed us to look forward and prepare for the future," added AJ Smith. "The goal and the vision of this team is incredible, and these weeks off has allowed us to prepare even more for the future. The goal in 2020 is set, but in 2021 we may have the opportunity to field a fourth car and expand more."

In order to piece together a robust team for the upcoming season and into the future, HMD Motorsports is equipped to establish relationships with 2021 drivers over the remainder of the 2020 season and onward as testing opportunities become available.

In what is likely the most bizarre season for the Road to Indy Presented by Cooper Tires, and racing in general, HMD Motorsports hopes to make the most of the opportunity to prepare for the future.
