HMD Indy 2021
After a short break, HMD Motorsports is gearing up for the next two rounds of the Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires Championship. Taking place this coming weekend at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course, the Brownsburg, Indiana based team is eager to challenge at their home event, only ten miles from their headquarters.

David Malukas, driver of the #79 HMD Trucking supported Dallara IL-15, has won two of the four races so far this season and will be looking to add to his win total and extend his championship points lead. With past Indy Lights experience at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and improved confidence heading into the weekend, Malukas is currently one of the drivers to beat in the 2021 season.

In the #59 entry, Nikita Lastochkin is hoping to continue improving and gaining confidence in the car. Over the past two event weekends, Lastochkin has moved up the results sheet in both speed and results, with a career-best finish of eighth at the last event weekend in St. Petersburg. In his debut Indy Lights season, Lastochkin has dramatically improved over the last five weeks since preseason testing and is hoping to break through this weekend to battle for positions at a track that he enters experience with.

Heading into the weekend, HMD Motorsports, along with Global Racing Group, are currently leading both the Team Championship, twenty points ahead of their closest competition, and the Drivers’ Championship with David Malukas three points ahead of his GRG teammate Linus Lundqvist.

Taking place over the course of just three days, and with the addition of two series test sessions, the Indy Lights field has a jampacked schedule. The first on-track activity will begin on Thursday morning with one test session followed by a second test and official practice later in the afternoon. Traditionally, both qualifying sessions would take place prior to the first race however, this weekend will see one qualifying session on Friday morning followed by race one in the afternoon. An additional qualifying session on Saturday morning will lead up to the second and final race of the weekend later in the day on Saturday, just before the start of the NTT IndyCar Series event.
