Farnham, England -- Carlin’s debut season in the Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires will reach a dramatic conclusion this weekend as the final race event of the 2015 season will commence in California with two titles up for grabs. For Carlin racers Ed Jones and Max Chilton, this means the excitement of putting pedal to the metal around the famous Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca circuit known worldwide for big elevation changes and the exhilarating Corkscrew corner. The final two races will also see Jones, who is still in contention for the championship title, fighting hard in order to gain an advantage over his title rivals. While both drivers will be aiming to contribute to Carlin’s overall points haul as they also fight for Team championship honours.

In a season that begun back in March, Carlin have enjoyed a strong and exciting maiden year in the highly competitive championship. Piloting their Dallara IL-15 chargers both Chilton and Jones have won races and scored podiums, with Jones having clinched three of his own and dominating the opening races of the season. This strong performance by the duo has ensured that Carlin sit second overall in the Teams’ Championship and still mathematically able to take the title. Jones meanwhile goes in to the final race weekend in California in contention for the overall 2015 Drivers’ title.

The Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca is a circuit famous for one corner in particular; the so-called ‘Corkscrew’. A blind crest, left-right combination coupled with a steep drop in elevation, The Corkscrew is the corner on the 3.6km circuit that everyone looks to master. Over the years the circuit has hosted both single seaters in the form of Indy Car as well as motorbikes and sports cars – all of which have provided spectacular racing as they attempt to tame the 11-corner raceway.

With the stakes high, Jones and Chilton will have their first outing on track on Thursday with two test sessions which will provide them with the ideal opportunity to get used to the circuit’s intricacies and work alongside their engineers – for Chilton, in his newly livered Skylanders Superchargers car it will be a case of re-acquainting himself with the track where he raced in the Star (Pro) Mazda Championship in 2007. Thursday’s format will be repeated on Friday with two further chances for testing while Saturday will feature qualifying and the first race of the weekend. Sunday will mark the final Indy Lights race of the 2015 season and will see both the Driver and Team Championships wrapped up and confirmed.

In the championship fight, Jones said of the upcoming weekend, ‘I'm really looking forward to this weekend because we approach it with a great opportunity to win this championship. The 2015 season has been up and down with an amazing start and with much to learn along the way; to be in with a shot of winning at the end is the main thing and something I’m extremely proud of. I have a feeling Laguna Seca will be a strong track for the team so that should give me the best opportunity to have a great weekend. The aim for us is to end this season in the same way we started it, with two more wins.’

Race winner Chilton added, ‘I am already enjoying being back in Monterey for the first time in eight years since my last time racing at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. It’s a world renowned track, helped by the famous corner The Corkscrew, positioned a few miles inland from one of the most picturesque coastlines in the world. I hugely enjoyed racing here in Star Mazda at the age of 16 and can't wait to experience it now with all the racing knowledge I have gathered since my first trip here in 2007. There will be a lot of people trying to move up in the championship standings this weekend but as I have been taking part in selected rounds this year I am just going for the best result I can with no pressure. It’s also going to be great this weekend as I have a new one off race partnership with Skylanders Superchargers for this event, so I’m looking forward to also welcoming their guests to what is going to be a very exciting event.’
