Three straights wins and championship lead have team focused on continued success

BROWNSBURG, IND. – Over the last two months, Belardi Auto Racing has found their stride in the Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires, winning the last three races on the schedule. Series championship leader Gabby Chaves scored back-to-back wins on the circuit’s biggest ovals, winning the Freedom 100 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Pocono 100 on the ‘Tricky Triangle’ in Pennsylvania. Chaves’ rookie teammate Alex Baron kept the run in motion just two weeks ago by bagging his first series win on the streets of Toronto, extending the Belardi win streak to three races. This weekend, the team heads to the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio (August 1-3) for the second doubleheader of the year, and the team will be focused on making it five wins in a row as Chaves prepares for the stretch run of the 2014 season.

Chaves will head to Mid-Ohio as the Indy Lights point leader following a strong second place finish in Toronto. The Colombian-American is now 21 points ahead of his closest competitor in the championship standings and is on a run of his own, having won two of the last three races within a streak of three podiums. The team is extremely focused on the championship and the veteran driver knows exactly what to do this weekend. Mid-Ohio is the site of Chaves’ breakthrough victory during his rookie season last year, and after a very successful test at the track in June, he is eager to get back behind the wheel of his #5 Belardi Auto Racing entry.

“I'm super excited to get going at Mid-Ohio,” Chaves said. “We have plenty of track time to get everything the best we can, and a doubleheader weekend to really put down the hammer, go for wins and stretch out our championship lead!

Following a Thursday multi-session test day, the Indy Lights field will take to the track for a 40-minute practice at 1:05 p.m. on Friday, August 1. Qualifying will run from 9:00-9:45 a.m. on Saturday morning, ahead of the first race of the weekend at 3:25 p.m. The green flag for second race will fly at 11:55 a.m. on Sunday, August 3.
