Monterey, Calif. – Belardi Auto Racing and Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires Rookie Lucas Kohl, wrapped up the 2019 season this past weekend at the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca with a pair of 8th place finishes.

The weekend started off with much needed practice for the driver of the No. 5 Dallara IL-15, as this would be his first trip to the circuit in the higher-powered Indy Lights machine. Kohl turned the most laps in the session with 26 and was able to work with lead engineer Kent Boyer on a direction setup wise for the remaining sessions.

Later that same day was qualifying for race one, and Kohl was able to lay down his fastest lap so far in the weekend at a 1:17.7, putting him 8th for race one.

Race one was a bit of a struggle for the young man from Brazil, finishing in 8th. The upside was Kohl was able to gain more valuable track time and see what the track is like when the Cooper Tires start to wear, giving him a better idea of what to expect for the final race of the season on Sunday.

The final qualifying session of the year saw Kohl once again best his fastest lap, this time running a 1:16.8 putting him 8th again on the starting grid, but with more experience heading into the final race of the year.

The final race of the season was met with beautiful weather and bright blue skies under the California sun. Lucas Kohl was able to battle for 7th position and then was working on maintaining lap times as the tires began to wear on the abrasive surface. Kohl would wind up bringing the No. 5 home in 8th position and finish the year 8th in points.

“It was a difficult weekend, but we made some good progress during practice and qualifying but we just didn’t have enough pace in the end to fight up front. The team once again did a great job, and we threw everything we had at it. I’m excited to work hard this off-season with the team and I know we will come back next year stronger than ever,” said Lucas Kohl

Lucas Kohl and the entire Belardi Auto Racing team are ready to begin off-season work, and better themselves for the 2020 season. The notes and data this year will be incredibly valuable to prepare for the upcoming season.
