It was a perfect weekend for Kyle Kirkwood and the No. 28 Andretti Autosport team. In today’s Race 2, Kirkwood captured his ninth win of the season and 30th win of his Road to Indy career. The Florida-native crossed the finish line over 26 seconds ahead of second-place finisher David Malukas.

Danial Frost started fourth and held his starting position despite being pressured by Benjamin Pedersen. Veteran Robert Megennis had his sights set on redemption after Race 1 and brought home a sixth-place result for Race 2.Devlin DeFrancesco was poised for a promising day after a difficult Q2 and ran a consistent race in his starting position of eighth on a track that is known for difficult passing.

The four-car Andretti Autosport team will return to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for the series finale weekend October 1-3.

KYLE KIRKWOOD
No. 28 ROAD TO INDY / COOPER TIRES / CONSTRUCTION CONTRACTORS CLUB DALLARA
START FINISH CHAMPIONSHIP
1 1 1ST / 488 PTS.
OF NOTE: Leads the 2021 Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires Championship by 15 points ahead of David Malukas
"I’ve got to give this win to the team. Andretti Autosport has been absolutely on it the entire weekend. Our car has been absolutely phenomenal. Like I said yesterday, we came here testing and whatever we found then, it was good. It’s given me a car where I can go out, drive my pace and focus on my driving and not have any big moments or slides - which is pretty rare for a place like this with how low grip there is and how much elevation there is. I couldn’t be any happier. Big thanks to all the Andretti guys. They’ve done a phenomenal job all weekend."

DANIAL FROST
No. 68 DEN-JET DALLARA
START FINISH CHAMPIONSHIP
4 4 5TH / 304 PTS.
OF NOTE: Ran a consistent race to bring home his sixth top-five finish of 2021
"We started Race 2 fourth and finished fourth. I think the race went pretty good considering everything. I thought that our race pace was really strong compared to the HMD guys. I think we did have the potential for a podium today, but track position is key here. You’ve got to be there at the very start and if you don’t make the moves then, you’ll kind of be sitting there for the rest of the race. Our car balance and setup was really good. As planned, we had the car set with a little more understeer so that I could play with the bars a little and work on the car. Overall, I think the team has done an excellent job to get me a front row car. I think we needed to extract a little more from qualifying to be able to fight for a podium or maybe a win. We’ll look forward to Mid-Ohio. We are very strong there and we’ve had great cars. We also started on pole and had a few podiums as well. We’ll look forward to a good result and I’m confident we will end the year on a strong note."

ROBERT MEGENNIS
No. 27 ANDRETTI AUTOSPORT DALLARA
START FINISH CHAMPIONSHIP
6 6 7TH / 285 PTS.
OF NOTE: Collected his 35th top-10 finish of his Indy Lights career
"It was a solid Race 2. We started sixth, finished sixth. We didn’t really move up a spot or drop back a spot. I flat spotted my front right tire in the Corkscrew with 10 laps to go, so I started falling back a little at that point. It was a pretty standard race at Laguna Seca. I held my spot and didn’t really have a lot of pressure from behind. I’m excited for Mid-Ohio. Looking forward to finishing the year off strong and having a good weekend. We know we have good cars there. It’ll be fun."

DEVLIN DEFRANCESCO
No. 17 POWERTAP DALLARA

Andretti Steinbrenner Autosport
START FINISH CHAMPIONSHIP
8 8 6TH / 294 PTS.
OF NOTE: Earned his 16th top-10 result of the 2021 season
"Today was almost like a test for us. We tried a couple of things in advance of the last weekend coming up at Mid-Ohio. Pace was generally okay in some parts of the race, but we dropped off in other parts. We need to have a look. I had a downshift issue into Turn 1 and the Corkscrew. That’s how I lost the position to Rasmus Lindh and almost lost a spot to Sting Ray Robb. We just have to move forward to Mid-Ohio with our sights set on finishing the season on a high note."
