INDY LIGHTS PRESENTED BY COOPER TIRES
Indy Lights Grand Prix of Monterey
Presented by Cooper Tires

  • The Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires field will conclude their West Coast swing with a return to the 2.238-mile road course at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca before heading back to Mid-Ohio for the season finale.
  • Following a crucial win in Portland, Kyle Kirkwood currently sits five points back from the Indy Lights Championship lead. Kirkwood heads to Monterey with a storied history after a win at Laguna Seca in 2019 crowned the Florida-native Indy Pro 2000 Champion.
  • Robert Megennis returns to Laguna Seca with confidence and momentum as the veteran Indy Lights driver earned a podium and top five in 2019.
  • 2021 will mark the first time Danial Frost will drive an Indy Lights car at Laguna Seca, but the Singaporean driver scored two top-10 starting positions and a top-six finish at the 2019 Indy Pro 2000 doubleheader in Monterey.
  • After a difficult weekend in Portland, Devlin DeFrancesco has his eyes set on gaining strong results in the final two race weekends of the year.

"The penultimate event at Laguna will be the most important weekend of the year, I believe. We feel confident in our cars for this track, but there is still some uncertainty. Our championship battle is so incredibly close, so this will be a critical time to try to stretch ahead prior to Mid-Ohio. Even though we’ve had three second-place finishes and a win at the last two events, I think we’re due for an even better weekend here in California."

"I'm excited for Laguna. We had a really good test there at the beginning of the year. I think we will have really good cars. It's a really fun track and always fun to be there. I'll have guests from all of our partners on site, which will be a blast to have them with us at the track. After having two top-five finishes in Portland, I'm excited to keep the momentum going because I think we can end up with some podiums if I keep driving the way I've been driving."

"Laguna is one of my favorite tracks. I love how it works. Coming into the weekend after our test, it seems like we have the quickest lap and fastest time compared to the race pace in qualifying in 2019. I think we are very strong there and the cars are very good. I'm excited to go back and try to get a podium or win. That's something we've been looking forward to. Laguna is one of the coolest tracks I've ever seen, especially with the Corkscrew - such an iconic corner. I'm excited to get out on track this week."

"I’m really looking forward to Laguna Seca. We had a great test out here early in the year and the circuit was everything I expected and more. It includes the Corkscrew, which is obviously one of the most famous corners in the world. It’s actually not that difficult, but you do have to be careful you don’t arrive in there too hot. The secret to a lap here is linking the corners together. The run from the Andretti hairpin to the Corkscrew is where you make all your time. If you make a small mistake in Turns 3, 4, 5 or 6 it can really compromise your lap. This place has a great flow to it when you get it right and it’s really rewarding. I’ve had a lot of laps in the Indy Lights car since that test and I can’t wait to get back on track on Friday."
