Andretti Autosport's Indy Lights team had quite the start to the 2019 Indy Lights presented by Cooper Tires season. Rookie Oliver Askew earned his first pole position yesterday in Race 2 qualifying. Askew took the lead heading into Turn 2 before making contact with Rinus Veekay and ended up in the wall. The race went back to green until seven laps to go when Robert Megennis made contact with the wall to bring out the race's second full-course caution.

The next race on the Indy Lights presented by Cooper Tires schedule is the inaugural doubleheader event at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas on March 22-24. Catch both races live with INDYCAR Pass on NBC Sports Gold. All action can be seen on the Road to Indy TV app.

  • CHAMPIONSHIP: 7th (29 pts.)
  • OF NOTE:
Raced every lap to jump one position in the two-caution race
    • Finished seventh in yesterday's Indy Lights Grand Prix of St. Petersburg Race 1
“It was the second race of the season and we just brought it home for good points here. We just couldn’t really find the pace towards the end of the weekend. I not sure why we lost the pace because we started out very strong, just kind of lost it from there. It is a long season. A lot of the tracks that we go to from here, I feel comfortable with and have had good results at, so we're going to stay consistent and get better at the next one and the we will be there at the end.”

      • STARTED 3rd//FINISHED 9th
      • CHAMPIONSHIP: 8th (27 pts.)
        OF NOTE:
        • Ran as high as second early in the race and earned fasted lap of the race
        • Battled with David Malukas for the fourth position before making contact with the wall.
        • Finished sixth in yesterday's Indy Lights Grand Prix of St. Petersburg Race 1
“It was kind of a disappointing race. We had really good pace, started in third and got up to second on the first lap. After the restart, we just couldn’t get the car underneath us. It was super loose for the first eight laps and we fell down to fifth. From there, the car kind of came alive. We had a really good race car, made fast lap of the race. I was running in fifth until I made a mistake and ended up in the wall. There are a lot of positives to take away from it. I'm disappointed with the results - I shouldn’t really be making mistakes like that, but I am excited to go to COTA with a better understanding of the car and learning from our mistakes. I know we have good race cars and a lot of pace to be contenders at our next event and bring home Palo Alto Networks, CyberArk, Optiv and SailPoint a podium or race win.”

          • STARTED 1st//FINISHED 10th
          • CHAMPIONSHIP: 5th (34 pts.)
          • OF NOTE:
            • Finished third in yesterday's Indy Lights Grand Prix of St. Petersburg Race 1
            • Made contact with the wall heading into Turn 2 after a battle from the Green Flag with Rinus Veekay
“Veekay was on my left corner going in to Turn 2 and I thought I gave him enough room. I felt him clip my rear tire and I went into the wall. It's really unfortunate, I feel really bad for the No. 28 crew, Index Invest, the Stellrecht family, and everyone at Andretti Autosport. It’s going to be a good year, but I am sad that we left here with fewer points than we should have. We will put it behind us and focus forward on the next few races. We are going to a couple tracks that we are really fast at and we tested at COTA and had some good speed, so hopefully we'll have a couple good results there.”
