COOPER TIRES GRAND PRIX AT ROAD AMERICA RACE 2
RACE 2 REPORT
06.23.2019

A brisk and cool morning did not stop the heated battles in the Cooper Tires Grand Prix at Road America Race 2. Ryan Norman, winner for Race 1 at Road America, challenged pole sitter Rinus VeeKay on the start but VeeKay claimed the top spot for the remainder of the race. The battles did not stop there, rookie teammates for Andretti Autosport, Robert Megennis and Oliver Askew, traded spots for the third and fourth positions all race long until Askew ultimately claimed the last podium spot.

Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires returns to the streets of Toronto for another double-header event on July 13 and 14.

No. 48 THREE CHORD DALLARA
  • STARTED 2nd//FINISHED 2nd
  • CHAMPIONSHIP: 4th (184 pts.)
  • OF NOTE: Race winner for Cooper Tires Grand Prix at Road America Race 1
"We had a great battle with (Oliver) Askew. My tires were falling off a little harder than yesterday so I was getting really loose at high speed. Oliver was catching me in Turns 1 and 3, but I was able to pull away in the back of the track. It was definitely an exciting race. I was just trying to put together some clean laps towards the end there because I knew Oliver might be catching up. I knew he didn’t have much push-to-pass so I felt pretty secure but just had to keep putting together clean. Thank you to Andretti Autosport and Three Chord for a successful weekend at Road America."

      No. 28 INDEX INVEST DALLARA
      • STARTED 4th//FINISHED 3rd
      • CHAMPIONSHIP: 1st (229 pts.)
      • OF NOTE: Battled for position with both teammates, Ryan Norman and Robert Megennis all race long // Has finished on the podium at least once every weekend of the season (seven total podiums in nine races)
"I never counted the race out, I knew (Rinus) VeeKay was going to be faster this weekend. I think will be better in Toronto and the next couple of races. Big thanks to everyone at Andretti Autosport and the crew on the No. 28 Index Invest car. Overall, it was a good weekend for us, started off a little slow but finished strong. We were all happy to finish the way we did."

          No. 27 CYBERSECURITY DALLARA
          • STARTED 5th//FINISHED 6th
          • CHAMPIONSHIP: 3rd (186 pts.)
          • OF NOTE: Had an action-packed race while battling for position with teammate Oliver Aske
"Race 2 wasn’t exactly the race we wanted to have. I drove a little too hard at the beginning and pushed the tires then used up my push-to-pass. I was just a victim by the end - I couldn’t really hold on and keep the other drivers behind me. The team gave me a great car and I can’t thank them enough. I can’t thank all my partners enough for helping me out. I'm excited for Toronto. I know this isn’t one of our strongest tracks and to get a podium yesterday was a great result. I am really looking forward to the rest of the year from here on."
