INDY LIGHTS GRAND PRIX OF ALABAMA PRESENTED BY COOPER TIRES
RACE DEBRIEF
04.18.2021

A beautiful day at Barber Motorsports Park for the Indy Lights Grand Prix of Alabama Presented by Cooper Tires Race 2. From the drop of the green flag, the leaders drew a gap but the rest of the field battled off and on for positions. Leading the team's four-car stable, Devlin DeFrancesco scored his second podium of the weekend in only his second Indy Lights race.

The Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires series will return to the streets of St. Petersburg next weekend for the season's second doubleheader weekend.
DEVLIN DEFRANCESCO
No. 17 POWERTAP DALLARA
Andretti Steinbrenner Autosport
START FINISH CHAMPIONSHIP
4th 3rd 2ND / 44 PTS.
OF NOTE: Finished the weekend with back-to-back podiums in his Indy Lights race weekend debut
"For sure happy where we ended up. If you told me at the start of the weekend we would come away with a double podium, that would have been a high expectation with where we were after Practice 1. The Andretti Steinbrenner guys did a fantastic job. We definitely got back a lot of the speed we were missing this weekend and onto St. Pete. I have to thank everyone who’s helped me so far and everyone who has made this season possible."

KYLE KIRKWOOD
No. 28 ROAD TO INDY / COOPER TIRES / CONSTRUCTION CONTRACTORS CLUB DALLARA
START FINISH CHAMPIONSHIP
7th 5th 7TH / 29 PTS.
OF NOTE: Challenged teammate Danial Frost for a majority of the race after falling back a few spots on the start // Collected his first top-five finish of his Indy Lights career
"The day was alright. As a team, we made a bunch of strides throughout the weekend so I’m happy where we ended up compared to where we started. Congrats to Devlin (DeFrancesco) for getting those two P3 finishes which is good and puts us on the podium. We struggled; the second qualifying definitely hurt us. It’s kind of where you started is where you finish around this place, especially without push-to-pass, so that was the whole day. We were running a second and a half a lap slower in traffic and you can’t do anything, so it’s a bit disappointing. It was a tough weekend in general, but we made a bunch of strides and got the car better and I know we’ll be good at St. Pete."

DANIAL FROST
No. 68 DEN-JET DALLARA
START FINISH CHAMPIONSHIP
10th 12th 9TH / 23 PTS.
OF NOTE: Battled alongside teammate Kyle Kirkwood almost the entire race until locking up and flat spotting the left-front tire
"We started the race P10 and we got ourselves up to P7 in the first lap which was quite good. After that we were pretty much stuck in a train from about third to ninth position, but towards the end I had a small lock-up and coming to two laps to go the left front tire had a puncture, which caused us to DNF this race - which is really frustrating. The opportunity to finish P6 or P7 was there, so we need to focus on next weekend and forget about what happened this week and reset our minds."

ROBERT MEGENNIS
No. 27 ANDRETTI AUTOSPORT DALLARA
START FINISH CHAMPIONSHIP
3rd 13th 9TH / 23 PTS.
OF NOTE: The 27 car's day unfortunately ended early after flat spotting the left-front tire during a battle for the podium with Toby Sowery
"My left-front tire went down. I was racing for third and I held on as long as I could. We kind of struggled for pace so we’ll look back at the data and see why. I didn’t think the tire was going to blow up, I really didn’t lock it up that much or didn’t do anything too crazy. It sucks that we had a good result going today and we need to get points when we can."
