Today's Mazda Indy Lights Grand Prix of Indianapolis Race 2 was once again filled with action from start to finish. The nail-biting race had the entire crowd on their feet as Dean Stoneman jumped from fifth position to first by Lap 3. The rookie led 33 of the 35-Laps and held off two other competitors who were also hungry for the top spot. Stoneman led the Andretti camp to the first victory of the season.

Shelby Blackstock and Dalton Kellett also ran impressive races gaining positions through the field. Blackstock, who started 10th, saw the checkered in seventh. Kellett was also in contention for a top-10 finish, however had to come into the pits for a tire change, placing him a lap down. The Canadian rookie crossed the finish line 12th.

The races at IMS are not over yet! The teams will have a week to turn the cars around and prepare for the next race held at the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval. The Freedom 100 will go green Friday, May 27 at 12:15pm ET.

Third consecutive podium in the Stellrecht Mazda

“(The conditions) were very difficult. We worked overnight – we never had a great car yesterday in race pace but we changed it slightly but it wasn’t perfect… But no car is perfect in a race. We were pushing to the absolute limit. It was an absolutely fantastic race. I have to say thanks to Andretti and the team, and to Mazda Road to Indy for a great car and to Bob Stellrecht for putting me in the car.”

Today Marked the veteran driver's 23 Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires Start

Gained 3 positions throughout the 35-Lap race

"Overall the weekend was good progression for the Starstruck team. I finished 10th and seventh for the weekend, so I will take the points as we move on. Unfortunately, we could have definitely finished higher up as there were some mistakes that I made. We just need to qualify higher and the opportunities will arise. A big congrats to the Andretti Autosport team and Dean on the first win in Indy Lights with the new car. "

Suffered through vibration after possible contact in early stages of the race

Set a fast lap of 1:16.6917 on the 14-turn circuit

"Congratulations to the Andretti crew for their first win in Indy Lights! Awesome that Dean was able to bring the car home in P1. Hopefully we see many more to come this year. On our side of things, the results were not where we wanted to be. We made some really good strides in terms of learning what the car needs and I think moving on from this weekend we should be in a much better place. The race was pretty tight with lots of action. We were running P8 and had an issue in Turn 7 in the beginning of the race. In the middle of the first couple laps I think I had contact with another car and the front left tire was going down.

I started getting a major vibration and because of that I drove off in Turn 7 which resulted in losing a couple spots. The following lap the tire actually punctured and we had to pit to get a fresh set of Cooper Tire slicks. From there we were able to bring the car home in 12th. Regardless, looking forward to the rest of May and I’m really excited to turn some laps on the IMS oval for the first time. Very confident we will have a great K-Line Insulators USA car and we will be bringing our A-Game for the Freedom 100. "
