INDY LIGHTS PRESENTED BY COOPER TIRES
FREEDOM 100 PRESENTED BY COOPER TIRES
QUALIFYING REPORT
05.23.2019
The field has been set and it's time to go racing at Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Freedom 100 presented by Cooper Tires. Mother Nature attempted to wash away today's Indy Lights presented by Cooper Tires track activity, but the sun came out for both the morning practice and this afternoon's single-car qualifying. Each driver did a two-lap qualifying run around Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the field was set fastest average speed.
Catch all of the action live tomorrow's Green Flag on NBCSN at 1pm ET.
No. 27 CYBERSECURITY DALLARA
STARTING POSITION:
1st
QUALIFYING TIME/SPEED:
194.206 mph
OF NOTE:
Clocked the fastest lap in morning practice // Currently sits third in championship points standing
"The car was perfect. I just held on and we pulled it off. Andretti Autosport gave me a great car and I can't thank them enough. I knew we always had a good car. We'll keep it going and have a good race as well. We keep taking steps in the right direction and moving forward. Andretti Autosport starting 1-2-3-4 is going to be amazing. If we can have a four-car breakaway and figure it out in the last few laps, that will be perfect. Serious thank you to all of my sponsors SailPoint, Optiv, Palo Alto Networks and CyberArk."
No. 28 INDEX INVEST DALLARA
STARTING POSITION:
2nd
QUALIFYING TIME/SPEED:
194.067 mph
OF NOTE:
Currently sits second in championship points standings
"Around here, you can win from the back row. It's nice to start second and hope to stay out of trouble in the first few laps. We can work together to save our tires, but you can't really plan for much when it comes down to the last 10 laps of the race. Great job by the crew, we definitely did our homework. Andretti Autosport rolled out with four great cars and we qualified 1-2-3-4. It is exciting and I am just trying to soak it all in. We will see what happens tomorrow, but I need to make sure I’m there at the end."
No. 48 THREE CHORD DALLARA
STARTING POSITION:
3rd
QUALIFYING TIME/SPEED:
193.033 mph
OF NOTE:
Career-best Freedom 100 starting position //Finished fifth in 2018 Freedom 100
"We have the race car really dialed in, really looking forward to the race tomorrow. For the race I’m going to try to stay up front for as long as I can. Last year, I waited in the back too long which messed up the tires. I gained a lot of oval racing experience from Gateway, so I’m really looking forward to using that knowledge in the race tomorrow and hopefully we can be there at the end."
No. 18 WINDOW WORLD DALLARA
STARTING POSITION:
4th
QUALIFYING TIME/SPEED:
192.822 mph
OF NOTE:
First-career Indy Lights race
"First off, we had our pit road speed limiter on to start and I think that cost us a little momentum to getting us up to speed. I got it turned off that then we were good to go. The guys gave us a good car. We didn’t get to do as much qualifying simulation practice as we wanted to so pretty happy with the run. I don’t know if you ever feel fully prepared. You have all these guys that have done all these laps in these cars and I haven’t. So I think we just continue to watch video, continue to think about it and come back and look at the data. We are going to try and run the best we can. I don't think we have set any expectations, but to put our heads down and keep digging and working then we will see how it all turns out."
