Andretti Quali COTA 2019

It was quite the end to the second race weekend of the 2019 Indy Lights presented by Cooper Tires race season. The Cooper Tires Indy Lights Grand Prix Race 2 was swept by rookie Oliver Askew with capturing the pole position and back-to-back wins at Circuit of the Americas.
Andretti Autosport rookie Robert Megennis earned another Indy Lights presented by Cooper Tires podium by finishing in second. Ryan Norman's race was filled with unfortunate luck, but the veteran driver was able to battle for position before bringing his racing machine home in ninth. After sweeping the weekend at Circuit of the Americas, Askew has taken the Indy Lights championship points lead with 98 points.

Next stop on the Indy Lights schedule is Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the month of May festivities starting with a double header race weekend on the historical track's road course. Races can be streamed live on NBC Sports Gold (INDYCAR Pass) and action can be seen on Road to Indy TV app.

  • CHAMPIONSHIP: 1st (98 pts.)
  • OF NOTE:
    • Took lead of the Indy Lights championship after sweeping the race weekend at COTA
“I think that this win is going to set the tone for the rest of the year. That was an awesome race. It’s always a fun race when you have to work for it and pass the other cars. Congrats to my teammate, Robert (Megennis), for finishing second. Can’t thank everyone enough on this No. 28 Index Invest Stellrecht car and everyone at Andretti Autosport.”

      • STARTED 2nd//FINISHED 2nd
      • CHAMPIONSHIP: 5th (74 pts.)
      • OF NOTE:
        • Led his first career Indy Lights laps during Race 2 after leading the first five laps and battled throughout the race with teammate Oliver Askew for the first position
        • Clocked the fastest lap of the race on Lap 9 with a time of 1:56.7005
"I had a great race today. I had a great start and got a draft on Oliver (Askew) going in to Turn 1 and passed him on the inside. Led the first five laps then Oliver (Askew) got by. I am super happy with second place and holding off David (Malukas) on the restart. I just wore my tires off a little too much which I will work on and improve for Indianapolis. Thank you to everyone at Andretti Autosport, Palo Alto Networks, SailPoint, CyberArk and Optiv for a great weekend at COTA.”

          • STARTED 4th//FINISHED 9th
          • CHAMPIONSHIP: 8th (56 pts.)
          • OF NOTE:
            • Battled for a spot in the top five early in the race before falling back to finish the race ninth
"Overall it was another really disappointing weekend. With the race yesterday, we had the pace to get a podium, but today the car wasn’t as fast – we just had a bunch of push in all the corners, especially the slow corners on the long straights. That’s how I was getting passed. Then we got hit in Turn 19, and after that the car was messed up. We now have a long break before Indy so I’ll mentally and physically recheck myself and come back stronger.”
